On Line (Web Site) Information Resources
There are just too many web sites out there with so much to offer. It’s difficult to choose which are best or most appropriate for the buy and hold dividend reinvestment strategy this book supports. The descriptions of what the sites have to offer is certainly not complete. These sites were and are instrumental for using and investing with the FYSSI.
-
Historical Stock Price.Com (historicalstockprice.com) This site does exactly what its title infers. It is relatively easy to obtain the open and closing price on any stock, on any given day the market was open dating back to 1996. There are links to other market related information and investments.
-
StockEarnings.com (stocksearning.com) This site offers an Earnings Per Share chart, an easy to see historical earnings table that goes back to 2013, volatility info, stock chart construction, specific stock news, an earnings screener, earnings calendar, and a stock summary page. Lots of info here.
-
Seeking Alpha (seekingalpha.com) A very information rich site. Lots of stock data, investor education, thoughtful generalized and specific stock articles by financial professionals with investor / author discussion, stock screens, chart construction, personalized watch list storage, all kinds of historical data, company earnings, total return, dividends, revenue, profit margin, income, etc. There is so much here. Just click on the tabs and drop down menu items and explore.
-
Yahoo Finance (finance.yahoo.com) Offers stock summary page, charts, historical stock prices / dividends (went back 23 years), stock specific and market news, make watch lists and charts, screen for stocks, ETF’S, mutual funds and more. Like so many other financial sites, there is so much here. Click and explore.
-
Total Real Returns (totalrealreturns.com) No nonsense and to the point, focusing on what the title of the site implies. Gives percent total return with dividends reinvested of the stock and date intervals of your choice. Goes back ten to twenty plus years, depending on the stock. Can also chart the total return compared with single or multiple stocks or indexes. Can choose inflation adjusted as well. Great site especially to update total returns for FYSSI stocks, or any newly discovered stocks.
-
Investopedia (www.investopedia.com) A personal finance resource on banking, credit cards, brokers, investment education and terminology. Many different calculators – savings, mortgage, loan, investment etc. are available but not apparent. Have to enter the type of calculator you are looking for in their search box.

Check out Ryne Williams’ “How to make $3,000 / month in dividends w / only $25 a week.”. His investment scenarios take more time than if you were to choose stocks from the FYSSI, but the dividend idea is similar. You might be able to obtain a Dividend Tracking Portfolio Spreadsheet after viewing one of his clips.

Brokerages
Be sure to check out all that a brokerage has to offer. Check EVERYTHING! Click on every tab in site to find out what it’s meant for. Moving money into and out of the brokerage and between accounts is important. What kind of transfers? Fees? Any trading fees or commissions? Most brokerages don’t charge commissions, but they do have small trading fees. Do they offer fractional share purchases? Understand account set up arrangements. What is their margin policy and interest rates? Look at everything. Get a live representative and ask questions. They are almost always courteous and willing to help.
